People often find that group therapy can be a great complement to the work they’re already doing in individual therapy and beneficial in unique ways. You might feel isolated or stuck in the same patterns with friends and family members or perhaps your colleagues at work. It can be a comforting feeling to practice the skills you’re learning in individual therapy in real conversations with other people in a setting that’s nonjudgmental and safe.

Group therapy gives you a private space to talk about what you’re going through, listen to others, and learn from people working on similar issues. Our therapists are there to guide the work and our patients tell us all the time how much less alone they feel after a productive session.

Why It Can Be Hard To Reach Out

Joining a group can feel intimidating. You might worry about speaking in front of others or wonder if your story is either “too much” or “not enough.” It’s common to feel uncertain before starting and it’s perfectly okay to start by listening and share at your own pace.

We’ll talk through any concerns before you begin and keep checking in once you’re a member.

A Professional Perspective On Group Therapy

Charlotte Howard, Ph.D.

Licensed Psychologist

It’s really good to learn about things that aren’t evident to you, initially, and might not become evident in individual therapy. Individual therapy focuses more on your story and what you know and exploring it from there. Individual therapy does open a lot of new insights, but group therapy can take what you learn there and blow things open for you.

You can practice in real time, “I feel angry at you right now. How am I going to deal with that?” It’s all about having immediate feedback on how it goes and how people actually see you when they’re really being authentic and so are you.

Therapeutic Approaches We Use

These are just some of the methods your therapist may use, depending on what you need:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Apply tools for thoughts, emotions, and behavior in real interactions.
Mindfulness Exercises: Brief practices to notice and respond rather than react.
Psychoeducation: Clear information about topics like anxiety, trauma, and communication.
DBT Skills Groups: Emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Role-Plays & Between-Session Practice: Try out new approaches and bring back what you learn.

How Group Therapy Works

Our group therapy sessions are designed to foster a sense of community and belonging. By sharing your experiences in a group setting, you’ll discover that you’re not alone in your struggles. Group therapy encourages openness, honesty, and personal growth.

Initial Intake Session
Step 1

Initial Intake Session

Before joining a group, you’ll meet with your therapist one-on-one to discuss your goals and prepare for group therapy. This intake meeting ensures that you are matched with the right group for your needs.

Group Participation
Step 2

Group Participation

Once in a group, you’ll engage in open discussions and participate in exercises that encourage you to express your emotions and thoughts. The focus is on exploring feelings as they arise within the group and gaining deeper insight into your relationship patterns.

Ongoing Care & Support
Step 3

Ongoing Care & Support

Together, you’ll build tools, strengths, and insights that support you long after each session.

Journeys to Healing

Real experiences shared by patients who turned therapy into transformation.

Love that I can do therapy & see my psych doc all within one organization. Thankful for Dr. Jakubec, who has been helping me the past year, he’s been so patient and really listens to my concerns.

I absolutely adore my therapist. He's one of the best therapists I have ever had in my life. Ease of getting appointments makes this by far my favorite practice to go to for therapy.

Omg, I had the BEST experience of my life from the moment I parked my vehicle, to being greeted til finished. My Soul feels renewed as well I think there’s a light of awakening. Thanks, Deep Centered.
