My name is Selena, and I am a seasoned therapist with more than ten years of experience. I spent a great deal of time in theater, and I finally settled on Counseling as a profession in my late twenties. I was afraid of not being a good fit for the position, but when I sat down with my first client, I knew it was right.
Selena Tyler, LPC
- Work best with: Adults, Couples, Families
- Appointments: Both in-person and telehealth
- Manage Medications: Provides therapy and collaborates closely with our psychiatry team for medication management, available through internal referral if needed.
My experience in working with patients has taught me that I am not the perfect therapist for everyone. I use metaphors and my writing background to help patients view their worlds in a different way. I have trained with EMDR and utilize it with patients to assist in managing trauma. I have worked with patients struggling with addictions of many kinds, and I utilize ACT and narrative therapy on a regular basis.
I am a good listener and I allow for silence when it is required for growth. I believe that people grow when they have been pushed into their discomfort zone, and I do my best to support each patient in that journey. I spend a great deal of time talking to patients about their stories and how they speak to themselves–also how their histories inform their current beliefs. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is useful for formulating the patient’s values and using them to guide therapy. I also utilize EMDR often to process trauma, and IFS to manage toxic self beliefs.
My calling to be a therapist comes primarily from my ability to empathize with others. I do not shy away from grief, depression, anxiety or trauma. I am patient-centered, and focus on your emotions, narratives, and whole systems that you live/work in.
