Welcome to the page! Thank you for exploring to learn more about myself and seeing if we might be a good fit. My name is Patrick Sivils and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Learning about people has always been one of my favorite things. I believe this natural curiosity and acceptance of people, through various stages of life, led me towards this field. I have worked in small and large community settings, along with several years in the school systems which created quite a variety of experiences.
Patrick Sivils, LPC
- Work best with: Teens, Adults, Couples, Families, Veterans, First Responders, LGBTQ+ Community
- Manage Medications: Provides therapy and collaborates closely with our psychiatry team for medication management, available through internal referral if needed.
I primarily practice through talk therapy and theories called Existentialism and Constructivism, which are also heavily influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) just with a little less structure. I can also provide Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), for in person patients.
What does this mean?
This means that your experiences and thoughts are yours, and I do not believe in invalidating or telling you otherwise. We each have our own realities, and they just overlap. While it is nice to feel understood, I will never truly understand because I have not lived your exact experiences. However, this doesn’t mean I am unable to help. We will work to explore various aspects of life, who you are, who you are wanting to become. One of my favorite quotes, “The ultimate goal of therapy… It’s too hard a question. The words come to me like tranquility, fulfillment, like realizing your potential.” -Irvin D. Yalom. These goals may feel like wanting to be congruent with your beliefs and how you are living your life. Whether that be reducing symptoms of depression, developing coping skills, improving communication, regaining your power, identity, and authenticity.
My therapy style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in authenticity. I take an integrative approach that draws from person-centered, acceptance-based, and trauma informed frameworks. Striving to offer a safe, nonjudgemental, and validating place to explore the aspects and experiences of who someone is. I have worked with many types of trauma, and work together to process at a comfortable pace; with emphasis on regulation to be able to process without reenforcing traumas. Building an authentic relationship, that allows for the co-creation of a therapeutic plan.
Patients may say my authenticity and recognition that we are all human is unique. Things are in constant flux and that is okay. We can holistically roll with the punches through life and work through things together. Life is hard, there is no doubting that; also scary, just like how seeking out therapy can be. Society sometimes makes it feel like we have to go it alone. But that isn’t true, everyone deserves someone to help figure out how to get through this wold that doesn’t have a manual. Let’s try and figure that out together.
