Does Insurance Cover Therapy, Psychiatry, TMS, and SPRAVATO In Texas?

If you’re considering therapy, psychiatry, TMS, or SPRAVATO, one of the first questions you may have is what your insurance will actually cover.

The answer depends on your specific plan and the type of treatment you need, but many mental health services are covered by insurance. At Deep Centered Mental Health, we’re in-network with most major insurance plans in Texas, and our team can verify your benefits before you begin care.

We provide therapy, psychiatry, TMS, and SPRAVATO in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, along with telehealth services available throughout Texas. Because these services are available within the same practice, we can also help patients navigate different levels of care as their needs change.

Here’s what you should know about using insurance for mental health care.

What Insurance Plans Does Deep Centered Mental Health Accept?

We’re in-network with most major insurance companies in Texas, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare.

You can see our full list of accepted insurance plans.

Insurance coverage can vary even among plans offered by the same insurer. If you’re unsure about your coverage, call us at (512) 956-6463 or request an appointment online. Our team can verify your benefits and help you understand what to expect before your first appointment.

What Does In-Network Mental Health Care Mean?

When a mental health provider is in-network with your insurance plan, they have an agreement with your insurance company to provide care at negotiated rates.

Depending on your plan, you may be responsible for a copay, coinsurance, or some or all of the negotiated rate until your deductible has been met.

This can make a significant difference compared with seeing an out-of-network provider, where you may need to pay the full cost of treatment upfront and then submit a claim to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

How Much Will Therapy Or Psychiatry Cost With Insurance?

There isn’t one answer that applies to every insurance plan.

Some patients have a flat copay for each appointment. Others pay coinsurance, which means they are responsible for a percentage of the negotiated cost of care. If your plan has a deductible that has not yet been met, you may pay more toward the cost of your appointments until you reach that amount.

At Deep Centered Mental Health, we check your benefits before you begin treatment and can help explain the information we receive from your insurance company. We want you to have a clearer idea of what your care may cost before you get started.

Does Insurance Cover Therapy?

Most major insurance plans provide coverage for outpatient mental health services, including therapy.

Coverage depends on your individual plan and clinical needs, but insurance may cover therapy for conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and other mental health concerns.

The frequency of your appointments will depend on your treatment plan and insurance benefits. Your therapist will work with you to determine an appropriate approach based on what brings you to therapy and what you hope to accomplish.

Deep Centered offers therapy with clinicians across a wide range of specialties, both in person and through telehealth. This allows us to consider your needs, preferences, and goals when helping connect you with a therapist.

Does Insurance Cover Psychiatry?

Most major health insurance plans also provide coverage for outpatient psychiatry, including psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.

Your individual cost will depend on your insurance benefits, deductible, copay, or coinsurance.

At Deep Centered Mental Health, our psychiatry team works closely with our therapists and other clinicians when appropriate. If you need both therapy and medication management, or your treatment needs change over time, having these services within the same practice can make it easier for your providers to coordinate your care.

Does Insurance Cover TMS?

TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic stimulation to target areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

Many major insurance plans cover TMS for major depressive disorder when certain clinical criteria are met. These requirements vary by insurance company and plan and may include a history of trying antidepressant medications or other treatments without sufficient improvement.

TMS typically requires prior authorization. Our team works with your insurance company to determine your benefits and handle the authorization process when treatment is recommended.

TMS is also FDA-cleared for certain other conditions, including OCD, although insurance coverage and authorization requirements can differ.

For patients who have been struggling with depression despite trying more traditional treatments, our team can also help determine whether TMS may be an appropriate next step.

Does Insurance Cover SPRAVATO?

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved treatment for certain adults with depression, including treatment-resistant depression.

Many major insurance plans cover SPRAVATO for patients who meet their clinical criteria. Prior authorization is generally required, and coverage requirements vary by plan.

If SPRAVATO may be appropriate for you, our team can review your insurance benefits and work through the authorization process with your insurer.

At Deep Centered Mental Health, we believe therapy is an important part of SPRAVATO treatment. Patients receiving SPRAVATO through our practice participate in therapy as part of their overall treatment plan. If you already have a therapist, you may be able to continue working with them. If you don’t, we can connect you with a Deep Centered therapist. We take this approach because we believe SPRAVATO should be part of a thoughtful, comprehensive treatment plan rather than viewed as a stand-alone treatment.

How Do I Find Out What My Insurance Covers?

You don’t need to understand all the details of your mental health benefits before reaching out.

When you contact Deep Centered Mental Health, our team can verify your insurance and help you understand your expected costs and any authorization requirements associated with the care you’re considering.

This can be especially helpful if you’re considering TMS or SPRAVATO, since those treatments often have additional insurance requirements. Our team can help you understand the process and work with your insurance company when prior authorization is needed.

If you’re interested in therapy, psychiatry, TMS, or SPRAVATO but aren’t sure what your insurance will cover, we encourage you to ask. Understanding your benefits can help you make a more informed decision about your care.
