All of my clinical work is grounded in a relational, patient-centered stance that recognizes each patient’s lived experiences, identities, and strengths in a trauma-informed and affirming manner. I pay particular attention to process-oriented, here-and-now, and experiential ways of working with patients that attend to attachment and interpersonal patterns.
I am committed to a patient-centered and patient-let stance that is rooted in curiosity and a deep desire to understand my patients fully and deeply. I strive to see the best in my patients and to help them shift their relationships not only with others but with themselves, often noticing and holding feelings of shame with compassion and understanding.
My intake sessions are spent striving to connect with and begin to understand my patients. Often this involves helping them understand what to expect from therapy, become comfortable with me and the therapeutic process, and practice sharing intimate information at the pace they are comfortable with. I let my patients bring in the issues and struggles which are most salient to them while also asking questions to help create a full, holistic understanding of their life and the concerns to be addressed in our work together.
My patients often name our relationship as a healing part of their therapeutic experience and a critical part of the change process. Patients often note that I helped them to connect with and more fully experience their emotions, reduce feelings of shame, show up more fully in their relationships, and view their experiences in more healthy, balanced, and compassionate ways. My patients have named my commitment to being my authentic self as unique and a strength of our work together. This means using humor, taking risks, making mistakes and taking responsibility for them, caring deeply about our relationship, challenging when appropriate, and acknowledging when I do and don’t know.
