I am person-centered, so I am not directing a patient in what we must discuss in sessions. I ask direct questions and challenge cognitive fallacies through the use of CBT, but I always conceptualize a patient’s case through a systemic lens. I address issues based on modalities that fit their needs/strengths so that I may facilitate their change. I offer much psychoeducation and love to discuss research for the patient to understand my advice vs them trusting it blindly because I’m their therapist.

During intake sessions, I do most of my direct questioning, so that it can help me understand as I try and conceptualize their case with the knowledge and training I have. I am very prone to asking about support systems, creating a genogram, asking about special interests, concerns that they would like to address.

At the end, my patients, both short and long-terms ones, have always described feeling seen, heard, and nurtured in their journey. They often express feeling genuinely cared for, respected, and empowered to continue to practice their skills and newfound awareness/growth. They often leave and express gratitude for the education they also take with them, like being able to understand and identify unhealthy behaviors and need for boundaries.

I have often received feedback with patients who point out my kindness and humanity with the care I show them. I truly feel and care to have each patient know that they are in a safe space, and that I am not here to ever judge them. I tend to use analogies and metaphors to compare concepts that may feel too complex to see, so I attempt to simplify them by reducing these “situations” to something less complicated. I know my humor is also often a part of what patients have noted and appreciated during my time with them. I am professional with my time and recognize and respect that each person’s story deserves proper space.

Personal Interests

I seriously enjoy being in the water, but have been too afraid to learn to swim as an adult, which does concern me but does not stop me from always making time to be in the pool or any form of body of water. Fun fact, maybe cool and not so fun but definitely rare, I have had one of my eyes fully reconstructed after trauma from a car accident. I have lived in two countries and deeply enjoy traveling. I love the taste of strong coffee, typically a Vietnamese one from The Teahouse, and I believe talking in memes and vocal stims can be identified as one of my love languages.
