Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I’m Tim, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I wanted to share a bit about my background and approach. Your comfort and trust are paramount, and I am here to support you in making an informed decision about whether we can work together effectively.
Tim Abendroth, LMFT
- Work best with: Adolescents, Adults, LGBTQ+ Community
- Manage Medications: Provides therapy and collaborates closely with our psychiatry team for medication management, available through internal referral if needed.
My therapeutic style is very client-centered and follows an interpersonal process flow. It is also pragmatic, inviting, warm, and empathetic. I really focus on empowerment, building self-efficacy, and giving tools that are tangible to clients. I heavily emphasize client rights and empower clients to show up in a way that is authentic to them.
I have experience treating anxiety (general, performance, social), some forms of OCD, depression, mood disorders, interpersonal, family, and relationship concerns, attachment, identity exploration (gender & sexual identity), sexual dysfunction, sex therapy, and trauma-related disorders. I have also worked with clients to better enhance their understanding of psycho-somatic experiencing.
Past clients have appreciated how I actively listen, effectively paraphrase, and show that I am present with them in their treatment. They have also valued my ability to, “bring things back around” when multiple topics, concerns, tools, or other information is being processed, provided, and explored. They respect my ability to teach and communicate how to use tools in different ways, as a means to help them understand how it best applies to them.

Personal Interests
I am originally from Wisconsin and have been in Austin for three years now! I am a former Division 3 cross country, indoor, and outdoor track collegiate athlete. Post college I have ran (so far) one half marathon, and three marathons. In current life I am an avid member of the sand and grass volleyball communities in Austin. Paddleboarding, bouldering, going to the gym, and biking are other staples in my active repertoire. I love to cook, and in my past working history I was a bartender for eight years in Madison, Wisconsin.
